My wife and I travel quite a bit now that we are retired, and take tours wherever we go. When we were visiting Charlotte we decided to take a day train trip from Charlotte to Raleigh and take a tour of Raleigh during our 4 hour turn-around time before catching the return train to Charlotte.
Two days before our trip we got Tobacco Road Tours phone number from the Raleigh Visitors Bureau and gave them a call. They did not have a scheduled tour during the time we would be in Raleigh, but offered to customize a three hour tour especially for us.
As you know if you have taken tours, the most significant factor which determines the enjoyment and value of a tour, is the tour guide. And the qualities of a tour guide which make the tour mediocre or outstanding is the knowledge, personality, enthusiasm, and ability of the guide to communicate with the visitors.
In our case, our guide was Brad Kennedy. He met us at the Raleigh train station, took us on an informative, thorough, and extremely enjoyable tour – which included a lunch stop at an historic restaurant – and got us back to the station on time for our return trip.
As I said above, over the last ten years we have been on more tours than I can count, and I consider this tour one of the most enjoyable and Mr. Kennedy as one of the very best guides. It is a sincere and honest pleasure to recommend Tobacco Road Tours. Raleigh is certainly a beautiful historic city and Brad did a splendid job giving us a wonderful and memorable experience. Thanks Brad.

I am posting to express my sincerely thanks to Lynn for assembling the plan, and to Brad for executing –we all had an excellent day! For anybody reading this to decide whether to try these guys, I’ll say they will be well worth a try. They made serious effort to get to know us and what we wanted out of our day, and they worked to make it happen. All of us from the cousins (from London, England to Seattle) to the “locals” (who have lived here about 3 years) will remember the day for a long time. These guys KNOW what they’re talking about. This is not some pre-packed tour where everybody gets the same thing and you feel like a heard of cattle – it feels more like your Uncle showing around some of his favorite spots. Cheers! to Tobacco Road Tours! We'll be calling again! |

Thanks for a Terrific tour of Pinehurst. I had no idea what a world class destination it truly is. The golf courses and landscaping are beautiful. The village is worth the tour just by itself. I hope to spend more time there very soon. |

Dear Brad:
My group of 10 ladies were most impressed with your promptness of arrival, as well as your kindness, professionalism and consideration was duly noted and greatly
appreciated by all of us. The iced down cold water on such a hot day was a very special treat! We felt like royalty in your new logo wrapped and could always find you waiting to help us in and out.
The bird's eye view of the area and historic content you imparted to us made the trip wonderful and highly memorable. We will be back to take another phase of your within the next month.
Sincerely, AMK |

Living so close to Durham, I was amazed at the cultural diversity between these two cities. For example, the existence of the rich Civil War history, the Duke education and tobacco tie-in and the Black Wall Street just to name a few. This tour is a MUST! |

Hey this tour was the bomb. Would have never thought Raleigh had that much history. I espically liked the oakwood neighborhood, the carousel and the botanical garden that ended the tour. Will be back and take your Durham tour the next time I am in town. thanks, hank. |

Brad,
I must say I have been visiting Raleigh & Durham for over 10 years and I am glad I found your companies services. Until your company, Raleigh did not have any daily tour service that anyone could easily book. Well, the Haw Valley wine tour was great. Surprising how good the french varietials are considering the short time they have been cultivated. Also, I must say that while I was skeptical abou the sweet wines, I ended up buying a few bottles to take home. I espically like rock of ages, iron gate and grove wineries. Thanks for all of the historical tidbits along the way and keep up the good work. Great concept. I look forward to taking your historic tours.
