FAMILY TREES, ROOTS, AND STONES

Whether you are a budding genealogist, curious about family histories, or simply looking for something fun and different without leaving town, this unique experience is for you!  Gather in Raleigh’s historic and beautiful Oakwood Cemetery to find out how to “read” a cemetery for stories about families and ancestors.  Your hosts will be local resident and professional genealogist Lisa Lisson (of the Are You My Cousin? blog), along with her husband Bob, a professional tour guide.  You can expect a respectful, fascinating and interactive time with ample opportunity for questions and discussion.

Tobacco Road Tours is teaming up with Lisa and Bob for a Historic Oakwood Cemetery walking tour to learn about how you can explore your family plot, cemetery and take away so much more about your families past, leading you into the future! See our tour BENEATH THE FAMILY TREE:  Stones, Roots, and Family History to register and share with family & friends.

In addition to being the final resting place of approximately 25,000 Raleigh-area citizens, including many city, state, and national leaders, Oakwood Cemetery is a walkable storybook full of history, symbolism and art.  Your 90-minute tour will wind from the original 2.5 acres, home to almost 1,500 fallen Confederate soldiers, to grave-sites that reveal easily-overlooked family history clues.  If you are on your own family history journey, our time together will help enrich your understanding and research.
