Common 414- An Art Deco Cocktail Parlor in Downtown Raleigh
Set in the Art Deco style with a Hollywood red carpet entrance feel, this “Cocktail Parlor”- a 1920s term – will WOW you with their sophisticated knowledge of craft cocktails and leave you thirsty for more! That’s why Tobacco Road Tours partnered with this popular establishment as one of the stops on our Raleigh Craft Cocktail & Cultural Walking Tour offered each Saturday in downtown Raleigh from 4:00pm-7:00pm.
One of Common 414’s goals is to bring the craft cocktail to the masses. There are other cocktail bars in Raleigh, but Common is different. If you don’t know the “drink” lingo- they’re tell you and share little tidbits about everything from the history behind the glass your drink is served in to where the liquor is made, to the history behind the drink itself. They have worked to create a sophisticated atmosphere, but with a down to earth vibe, that will make you feel welcomed and part of the family.
Located on, you guessed it, 414 Fayetteville Street, near the heart of downtown Raleigh, Common 414 is part of a trio of one of a kind establishments owned by IH Hospitality consisting of Coglins, Patty O’Beers and Bottle Shop & Tasting Room , also located on Fayetteville Street.
Tobacco Road Tours mascot Ashleigh, who has her own Pinterest page, enjoyed meeting all guys at Common.
A little history of how the Coupe glass got it’s name: “Legend has it that the coupe glass was molded from Marie Antoinette’s left breast, and that she wanted her court to toast her health by drinking from glasses shaped like her bosom. However, the truth is the glass was actually invented long before the reign of the queen, in 1663 in England.”- Huffingtonpost.com.
Common 414 is a whisky and bourbon drinker’s heaven with 100+ types and still expanding. They will also be switching up the drink menu up this month and each month they host a spirit tasting focused on Bourbons. Their lineup of events is impressive including an up and coming 3 Ring Circus Masquerade Halloween Ball on October 31st from 9pm-4am!
